Q: Can you sit on the edge of the tub and slide onto the wings and then to the bath lift ? - Jane

Bathmaster Sonaris 2 bath LiftA: The wings or transfer flaps of the bath lift are designed for the user to sit on the edge of the bath tub and transfer into the bath lift.

For proper use of the bath lift, the transfer flap must rest on the edge of the tub by 2 - 3 ", (see the picture to the left of the Bathmaster Sonaris 2 Bath Lift ) otherwise the transfer flap will not support weight by itself. For safety reasons this is the recommended and proper way to enter the bath lift, as it avoids standing in the bath tub which is a safety hazard for seniors, elderly and those with disabilities.

To ensure a proper fit, we recommend taking measurements of the bath tub and contacting our trained customer service to review the measurements with you.

Q: Do the bath lift wings support any weight? - Chris

Bathmaster Deltis With Swivel Transfer Seat

A: The wings or transfer flaps serve the following purposes:

 - Cover the gap between the bath lift seat and the edge of the tub, when the lift is level with the top of the bath tub. This prevents any accidental falling between the lift and the tub. It is not uncommon in standard bath tubs for the transfer flap on the wall side of the tub to remain at an angled position.

- Enable the individual to sit down on the edge of the tub and transfer into the bath lift, then transfer back out to get their feet on the outside of the tub. This prevents the need to stand in the tub and the lift their legs up and out of the slippery tub * Note the transfer flap will support up to the weight capacity of the bath lift as long as it is resting 2 - 3 " on the edge of the tub. The transfer flap will not support any weight if it is not resting on a solid surface.

- Support the swivel transfer seat as the individual rotates and slides into an out of the bath lift. For more information on bath lifts with swivel transfer seats click here.

- The transfer flaps do not provide any stability to the bath lift itself, they are hinged and fold inward as the lift is lowered into the tub, they slide along the walls of the tub as the lift is raised and lowered.

PETERMANN 58 BATH LIFTS FOR DEEPER JACUZZI AND GARDEN BATH TUBSA: Bath lift's such as the Bathmaster Sonairs 2 and Deltis, as well as the Drive Medical Bellavita and Whisper should fit in Wider Garden tubs that are rectangular.

For oval shaped bath tubs, we recommend that you call us (877-573-8311) to review the measurements of the tub to ensure a proper fit of the wings/transfer flaps as the edge of the tub gets wider as it ovals outward.

Currently , the only bath lifts with wider (7" transfer flaps) available are the Petermann 48 and 58 bath lifts for deeper and wider Jacuzzi bath tubs.
