Q: How wide is the seat and base of the Deltis Bath Lift ? I am concerned about it fitting into my contoured tub. - Larry

A:  Thank you for your question Larry, the width of the seat is 14 3/4" and the base is 11 1/2" wide. There should not be a problem fitting in a standard size tub as the bath lift can be moved around to keep the base from being inside the deltis-bath-lift-826.jpgbevels as long as the transfer flap is several inches on the side of the bath tub to support the weight of the individual.

Q: Can Epsom salt or other bath therapy products be used with the bath lift ? - Mrs. Rose

deltis-side-bar.jpgA: Bath Therapy products such as Epsom salt can be used with the bath lift.  While they will not affect the bath lift itself, products such as bath oils and moisturizers are not recommended as they tend to leave a residue on the bottom of the bath tub which can cause the suction cups to slide along the bottom of the bath tub. "Skin So Soft " should never be used as this will turn the suction cups into jelly after a few uses.

If bath oils and moisturizers have been uses in the bath tub, we recommend cleaning the bottom of the tub with plain "Joy - Non Ultra" Dish soap to remove any residue which will affect the bath lift suction cups from adhering to the bottom of the tub . Joy soap is used to strip the wax from show cars prior to re-waxing or other conditioning of the car body surface.

Q: How difficult is the Bathmaster Deltis Bath Lift To Use ? - Leisa

A: Deltis Bath lifts are pretty simple to use. When in the raised position, the seat will over lap the out side lip of the bath tub. The user simply sits on the bath lift with their legs outside the bath tub, rotate their legs into the bath tub, center deltis-bath-lift-swivel.jpgthemselves on the seat (if the individual has difficulty centering themselves in the bath lift we recommend a bath lift with a swivel transfer seat, such as the Bathmaster Deltis Swivel Transfer combo) and push a button or lever which will lower them into the water. The bath tub can be filled before (preferable for comfort) or after the lift is lowered. When the bath is finished, the user uses the button/lever to lift the bath lift to the raised position, the user swings their legs out and stands or transfers to a wheelchair.

One thing to keep in mind is the seat flaps which lay on the side of the tub are supported by the tub wall. If the lift is too high, there is a danger of the flaps breaking off during a transfer. To avoid breakage, the bath lift must be raised to the same height as the side of the bath tub and not higher during transfers.

Q: My parents tub is only 19" wide, will the Deltis Bath Lift work with their tub? - Rebecca

deltis-bath-lift-swivel.jpgA: Yes, 19" would be the inside measurement of the tub. Most bathtubs are 23" - 24" from the wall to the outside of the tub. From Transfer flap to transfer flap the width is 27". The transfer flaps are hinged and fold upward as the lift lowers into the tub. The transfer flap on the wall side of the tub will always remain angled up and ride along the side of the tub. The flaps do not add stability to the lift, the flap on the entry/exit side of the tub covers the gap between the bath lift seat and the edge of the tub to transfer out of the lift. This flap must rest level with the edge of the tub to support the weight of the individual using the lift.

Q: Do the transfer flaps pinch the person in the bath lift - Jim

A: The transfer flaps on the bath lift fold inward as the lift as it lowers into the tub. The "hinge" is protected so pinching should not be an issue. Some models such as the Bathmaster DeltisBathmaster Sonairs 2 XL and Drive Medical Whisper bath lift allow the transfer flap on the wall side of the tub to be removed without affecting the cover of the bath lift.

Q: Will the Bathmaster Deltis fit in a shower tub enclosure without the glass doors? - Mary

A: The Bathmaster Deltis bath lift will fit most standard sized bath tubs.

The length of the tub floor should be considered, if the tub is short for a shower enclosure, and the individual is tall, you deltis-bath-lift-3.jpgwill be limited in the ability to recline in order to move the bath lift to the back of the tub for additional legroom. In addition, if there is any texture on the bottom of the bath tub we recommend you try a suction cup on the bottom of the tub prior to purchasing (like a suction cup grab bar) to ensure the suction cups of the bath lift will adhere to the bottom of the tub.

Please feel free to call us to review the measurements of the tub. We have included our Important Factors for selecting the proper bath lift below.

Depth of the inside of the bath tub at the center

Length of the floor of the bath tub

Total Width of the bath tub (outside to outside)

Is the bath tub rectangular or oval in shape on the inside?

Is the bath tub a Jacuzzi or garden style tub?

Is there any texture on the floor of the bath tub?

Weight of the individual that will be using the bath lift

Does the individual have difficulty moving along a bench while seated?

Is the individual user able to stand up without assistance from a dining room chair?

How Do I Choose The Right Bath Tub Lift - Korey

1. Measure your bathtub to determine what size lift you should buy. Measure the bathtub’s depth, width, and length deltis-bath-lift-826.jpgto determine which size of bathtub lift will fit in your bathtub. Take into consideration the user’s weight and make sure that the bath tub lift you order will accommodate the needed capacity.

2. Think about what kind of installation you’ll be able to complete. Some bathtub lifts may require a professional installation; our bath lifts are assembled and installed in less than ten minutes and without any tools. Furthermore, they use suction cup attachments to hold the lift in place while in use; therefore, make sure that the surface of your bathtub is compatible with suction cups. Some textured surfaces may not be compatible with a suction cup; the surface must be flat and non-porous.

3. Consider how you want your bathtub lift to be powered. Bathtub lifts are either water powered or battery powered; water powered bath lifts raise the bather by filling and draining water in a bladder under the seat portion of the lift, while battery powered bathtub lifts use rechargeable batteries to lift and lower the seat. Most battery powered bathtub lifts will not lower unless they have enough battery power to raise up again, so regular charging is recommended for reliable use. Some, such as the Bathmaster Deltis Bath Lift with Blue Cover and Premium Charger, allow approximately six lifts from one full charge and can be fully recharged in just one hour.

4. Think about whether you’ll need any additional accessories for your bathtub lift. For example, will the bather need a transfer device to get to the middle of the bathtub lift seat? Does your bathtub lift have a padded backrest and seat? Will you need any extra batteries or a headrest? Consider these extras before you make your final decision about which bathtub lift to purchase.

Q: Can the Deltis Bath lift be used with the back facing the faucet end of the tub? - Madeline

Deltis Bath Lift

A: The Deltis Bath lift will operate in any end of the tub. The right and left transfer flaps  provide a universal fit, so you will be able to turn the bath lift around to either end of the tub.

The recline of the bath lift is controlled by the user, in a shorter tub with a recline in the back, you will be able to install it in the faucet end of the tub for additional legroom. Also, you may to need to install the bath lift in the facet end if a commode prevents entry and exit from the bath lift.

You will need to pull the bath lift slightly forward of the drain to ensure the bath lift does not interfer with the drain.

Q: What does the side flaps on the bath lift do once the chair is in a down in the tub mode? Do they flip up or stay extended?

A: The transfer flaps of the bath lift are hinged and will flip up as you lower the chair down. They gently ride along the sides of the tub as the lift lowers. When the lift is raised they will ride along the sides of the tub, when the lift reaches the top of the tub, the transfer flaps flatten out on the entry/ exit side of the tub to cover the gap between the bath lift and the edge of the bath tub. It is now unusual for the transfer flap on the wall side of the tub to remain in an angled position.

Q: I am in the process of selecting a bath lift, how do I measure the tub ? - Joe

A: Measuring a bath tub for a lift

If you are in the process of selecting a bath lift, you want to make sure it will fit your needs. A few questions will help you wisper-banner.jpgdetermine the right lift.

How deep is your bath tub? Measure the inside depth. When the lift is in the top position, a side flap should be supported by the side of the tub. Going higher than the side of the tub may cause instability.

How wide is your tub? Measure the inside width at the top. When the side flaps are extended, they should cross over and be supported by the side where you enter the tub.

How long is your tub? Measure the inside length at the bottom and the top of the tub. The further back you place the seat, the more leg room you will have.

What does the bather weigh? All of our bath lifts will accommodate 308 lbs. Some have capacities up to 375Lbs.

Will the user need a transfer device to get to the middle of the bathtub lift seat? Our Swivel and Slide Transfer Device can be added to any of our bath lifts

Important Things To Know Before Purchasing a Bath Chair Lift

deltis-bath-lift-3.jpgHave you foregone a bath simply because you have problems getting up and down the bottom of your bathtub? If yes, you aren’t alone, there are so many people out there who are just like you as well even though they enjoy the soothing and the benefits of soaking in nice, warm water.

The good news is that there is a perfect solution for you. A battery powered chair-style bath lift is definitely the best solution for you. Like with any other product on the market these days, battery-powered bath lift chairs come in different models and with a wide array of different features. The major differences can be seen in the bath lifts’ minimum and maximum lifting heights, weight capacity, seat width, reclining capabilities and weight capacity. Other differences can also be found in features designed to make getting in and getting out the bathtub easier. Such features include swivel transfer seat and side flaps.

Moreover, bath lifts also vary in prices just like any other item out there. Generally, the prices are normally between $400 and $1,500, depending on the features desired.

In as much as there is a sea of bathtubs out there for you to choose your ideal bath lift from, the reality however is that choosing a bath lift from numerous choices out there can prove to be a daunting task especially if you have never shopped for a bath lift before. This doesn’t mean that you can’t choose the best bath lift for your needs. Actually, it is something that you can do provided you know how to go about it. If you don’t, here is a comprehensive guide that will help you make an informed decision when picking a bath lift model that is best suited for your needs as well as the exact dimensions of your bathtub. As such, this guide is a great read for you if you are really looking forward to purchasing a bath lift.

How exactly does a battery-powered bath lift work?

Basically, a battery-powered bath lift doesn’t really require electrical wires or an electrical outlet connecting it to the bathtub. It is simply controlled through a battery-powered hand control. All you need is to simply press the up/down button on the hand control. The bath lift will do the difficult work of lowering to the bottom of your bathtub and raising you up again once you are done with your bath.

Modern models come with a safety feature designed for purposes of ensuring that the bath lift doesn’t lower you down in event that there isn’t enough battery power in the hand control to lift you back up again. It is therefore prudent to ensure that thus featured is present before purchasing any bath lift model.

What is the average number of lifts that a bath lift can perform per charge?

The average number of lifts that a bath lift can perform per charge is approximately between 7 to 12 lifts. The number can vary depending on the model of the bath lift, the lifetime of the battery used and the overall weight of a person. In other words, some models can perform more lifts than others. If you want to recharge the battery, all you have to do is to plug the battery into a charger. The charger needs to be located some safe distance away from the water source or in a separate room from the bathroom.

What are some of the important factors that I should put into consideration when choosing a bath lift?

Actually, there are a number of factors that you need to consider when choosing a bath lift so that you can choose one that best suits your needs. Here are a couple of them.

Height - it is prudent you choose a bath lift that is able to go up to a height that is even with the edge of the bathtub, or preferably higher. On average, most battery-powered bath lift models can achieve a height of between 17 and 18 inches. Some models such as the Petermann 58 can achieve heights that are as high as 23 inches.

Weight capacity- this is also another important factor that you need to consider when shopping for a bath lift. On average, most of the battery-powered lift models out there have a weight lifting capacity of 308 lbs. Bath Lifts such as the petermann-58-bathtub-lift.jpgBathmaster Sonairs 2 and Petermann 48 have a weight capacity of 375 lbs.You can also order a custom-made bath lift known as the Aquatec Major which has a weight capacity of more than 500 lbs.

Width - you also need to make sure that the bath lift that you settle for will perfectly fit the exact dimensions of your bathtub. Therefore, it is always a good idea to go for the widest bath lift that your bathtub can hold. This is because it will mean that the open gap between the bath lift’s seat and they edge of your bathtub will be less. Generally, bath lifts come in widths ranging from 26 inches to 27 inches . If the bath lift model comes with transfer side flaps, then it means that the advertised width also includes the side flaps.

Transfer Flaps or wings - many bath lifts have wings or transfer flaps that are attached to the sides of the bathtub seat. These transfer flaps are normally designed to extend beyond the top of bathtub’s wall once the lift is at its maximum height. The transfer flaps are also designed to fold upwards as the lift is lowering to the bottom of the bath tub. Moreover, they are designed for purposes of filling up the open gap that is between the bathtubs’ wall and the bath lift’s seat. This allows you to comfortably sit down on the edge of your bathtub while your legs are outside your bathtub. When seated on this safe position, you can comfortably slide yourself backwards right to the middle of your bath lift while at the same time lifting your legs over the bathtub’s walls each at a time devoid of stepping in and out.

Lowest height achievable-It is important to note that once the bath lift brings you to the bottom of your bathtub, it therefore means that you won’t be sitting directly on your bathtub’s floor. The seat together with the lifting components will still remain underneath you and they will be suspending you a couple of inches above the floor of your bathtub. Therefore, it definitely means that if a bath lift model enables you to go lower, then you will be submerged more in the water. If the bath lift model doesn’t allow you to go lower, then you will be less submerged in the water. If you are looking for a bath lift model that will offer you the lowest bath lift height possible, then it is prudent you go for Bellavita. This model offers a lower bath lift height of up to 2 ½ inches.

Recline vs. No –recline- While most of the bath lifts model on the market these days do recline, there are however some models that don’t recline at all. Some models are designed to recline you back as they lower while some models are self-controlled , hence providing you with the option of whether to recline or remain upright. The models that are designed with a completely upright back that hardly recline at all offer more legroom, hence making them the best option for taller persons. However, if you aren’t tall, it is prudent you choose a bath lift model that comes with a self-controlled feature that is designed to give you the option of whether to recline or remain upright. The reclined position is quite relaxing for soaking, while the upright position enables you to easily reach your legs and feet for cleaning or shaving.

Suction cups - Most bath lifts have suction cups on their bottom, which are basically designed for purposes of holding them still when getting in and out the bathtub. Bath lifts can come equipped with 4-6 suction cups , largely depending on the model and the manufacturer. However, suction cups aren’t the same. Some suction cups may be compatible with the surface that is on the bottom of your bathtub, while others may not be compatible at all. As such, confirm with our customer service whether the suction cups for that model you are thinking of purchasing are compatible with the surface that is on the bottom of your bath tub or not. Nothing can be more disappointing than purchasing a bath lift only to realize that its suction cups aren’t compatible with your bathtub. Generally, bathtubs suction cups don’t work well on bathtubs with textured bottom or bathtubs with safety strips on their bottom. The Petermann 48 and 58 bath lifts do not use suctions cups , therefore they will work with or without a textured surface.

Swivel transfer seat –most bath lifts manufacturer these days offer swivel transfer seats. The swivel transfer seat can be added to the seat for purposes of helping you turn your bottom easily when getting in and out of your bathtub. deltis-bath-lift-swivel.jpgTherefore, you need to pay close attention to the swivel seat when picking a bath lift for your bathtub, and most importantly ensure that there is a swivel transfer seat available, should you want or need to add it in the future.

Cleaning- the other incredibly important factor that you need to consider when it comes to selecting a bath lift is ease of cleaning it. Basically, you should go for the model that is quite easier to clean. If possible, choose the model with fewer moving pieces, thanks to the fact that such a model is quite easy to clean. Again, if you are susceptible to infections, it is prudent you go for a bath lift model that comes with a smooth antimicrobial surface such as the Bathmaster Sonairs 2. The model should also have the fewest moving pieces possible. Lots of manufacturers these days additionally provide removable, washable and hygienic covers for their bath lifts. A bath lift model with a removable, washable and hygienic cover can be the best bet for you if you are highly prone to infections.

Slip-resistant surface (Seat Covers)- generally, bath lift seats can come with or without back and seat covers. The two versions have their fair share of pros and cons as well. From a safety point of view, it is advisable to go for a bath lift model with slip-resistant covers and slightly textured seat such as the Bathmaster Deltis to ensure that you don’t slip off while taking a bath. The main drawback to choosing a model without a seat cover is that it is quite easy to slide across while getting in and out of your bathtub.

Frame materials- Generally, bath lift frames can either be made of aluminum, stainless steel or plastic. The best and strongest frame material is stainless steel. Bath lifts that are made of stainless steel such as the Petermann’s are capable or getting to higher lifting heights as opposed to their counterparts that are made of plastic material. Although the models with frames made from stainless steel material are costly than model with frames made from other materials, there are however worth the extra prices considering that they don’t only enable the bath lift to reach the highest level possible, but they are more durable than other models made from other materials as well.

Installation - While most of the bath lifts out there are quite simple to put together, there are still some models that may be difficult to put together and will require you to have your tools handy. It is therefore prudent to settle for a bath lift model that is quite simple to put together by simply joining the pieces together without using any tools. The easier a model is to install without any tools and with less effort required, the better the model is for you.

Additional features- If you are an overly a tall person, you should select a bath lift that offer headrest attachments. Again, if you have a poor sitting balance, you should select a bath lift with seat belts and chest straps to prevent you from slipping forward.

Do your research - before deciding to purchase a particular bath lift model, you should research online to see whether there are some complaints that have been filed against it.

With this guide right at your fingertips, then there isn’t any doubt whatsoever that you will pick the best bath lift that suits your needs. Please call us at 877-573-8311 for more information about bath lifts.

Q: If you don't want to recline the bath lift to the fullest position, you have no choice? - Deanna

deltis-bath-lift-2-300x249.jpgA: Most bath lifts raise and lower with the back in the straight vertical position. Q: Does the Entire Bath Lift Swivel with the Bathmaster Deltis Swivel transfer Combo ? - Robert

deltis-bath-lift-swivel.jpgA: The entire lift does not swivel on any of the bath lifts, including the Bathmaster Deltis. The swivel transfer seat works like a lazy susan on a track. The swivel seat sits on the top of the bath lift seat and is held down by the individuals weight. As the individual rotates from the edge of the tub, the seat will rotate under the individual. As the individual moves into the center of the bath lift, the seat will slide along the track into the center of the seat.

Caregivers find the swivel transfer seat to be invaluable when they assist their patients into the bath lift.

Since the back of the bath lift remains in it's fixed position and does not swivel , individuals with decreased trunk strength or trunk control should seek an analysis by a Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist to determine if the Bath lift with swivel transfer seat is a suitable aid for bathing.

Q: My tub is big - 31" wide by 49" long. Will the Bathmaster Deltis Bath Lift work ok in it? - From Amazon

deltis-bath-lift-swivel.jpgA: There is not enough information based on the measurements you provided to make a proper assessment. If the bath tub is 31" wide at the top and oval in shape the transfer flap on the exit /entry side of the tub will not rest properly on the edge of the tub to aid the user to utilize the transfer flap. It would be best if you could send us a message and attach photo's of the bath tub and we would be able to properly advise you from there, prior to purchase. We have included the important measurements below as a guide for determining if the bath lift will fit properly in the tub

Q: A couple people mentioned there is very little leg room. How close to the back of tub does the bath lift set?? - Melinda

bellavita-bath-lifts-300x225.jpgA: There are a few factors that will determine the leg room in the bath tub with a bath lift.

- The length of the floor of the bath tub

- The height of the individual using the bath lift

- Will the individual recline the bath lift.

The Drive Medical Whisper Ultra Quiet and Bellavita bath lifts are constructed where the back rest does sits forward of the frame , creating a 4" tail, this pushes the individual forward in the bath tub.

The Bathmaster Sonaris 2 and Deltis Bath lifts are construct when the back rest in even with the frame, which provides an additional 4" of legroom.

Reclining a bath lift is much like bringing a recliner into you living room, when the back hits the wall you must push the lift forward, causing the legroom to be limited. The recline is controlled by the user on the Bellavita, Whisper , Deltis and Sonaris 2 bath lifts. In shorter tubs, the individual may not be able to recline as far and move the bath lift further back in the tub

Q: Can you sit on the edge of the tub and slide onto the wings and then to the bath lift ? - Jane

Bathmaster Sonaris 2 bath LiftA: The wings or transfer flaps of the bath lift are designed for the user to sit on the edge of the bath tub and transfer into the bath lift.

For proper use of the bath lift, the transfer flap must rest on the edge of the tub by 2 - 3 ", (see the picture to the left of the Bathmaster Sonaris 2 Bath Lift ) otherwise the transfer flap will not support weight by itself. For safety reasons this is the recommended and proper way to enter the bath lift, as it avoids standing in the bath tub which is a safety hazard for seniors, elderly and those with disabilities.

To ensure a proper fit, we recommend taking measurements of the bath tub and contacting our trained customer service to review the measurements with you.

Q: Do the bath lift wings support any weight? - Chris

Bathmaster Deltis With Swivel Transfer Seat

A: The wings or transfer flaps serve the following purposes:

 - Cover the gap between the bath lift seat and the edge of the tub, when the lift is level with the top of the bath tub. This prevents any accidental falling between the lift and the tub. It is not uncommon in standard bath tubs for the transfer flap on the wall side of the tub to remain at an angled position.

- Enable the individual to sit down on the edge of the tub and transfer into the bath lift, then transfer back out to get their feet on the outside of the tub. This prevents the need to stand in the tub and the lift their legs up and out of the slippery tub * Note the transfer flap will support up to the weight capacity of the bath lift as long as it is resting 2 - 3 " on the edge of the tub. The transfer flap will not support any weight if it is not resting on a solid surface.

- Support the swivel transfer seat as the individual rotates and slides into an out of the bath lift. For more information on bath lifts with swivel transfer seats click here.

- The transfer flaps do not provide any stability to the bath lift itself, they are hinged and fold inward as the lift is lowered into the tub, they slide along the walls of the tub as the lift is raised and lowered.
